Walk In Bath Tubs

Safety is paramount, particularly when it concerns your elderly or handicapped loved ones. Walk in bathtubs are a great investment in the safety of anyone who cannot comfortably enter and use a regular tub. Walk in bathtubs are safe because they eliminate, or at least drastically reduce, the chance of falls.

Walk in bathtubs allow the user to enter the tub without having to climb over the edge of it. They are generally marketed toward handicapped and elderly persons but because of their great designs, they are becoming more popular across a wider range. Due to their size and shape, they are ideal for smaller bathrooms and many people choose to purchase them in anticipation of their own later years or to enable them to take in an elderly or handicapped loved one and provide them with an ideal bathing environment.

The doors on a walk in bathtub are watertight and some use an outward swinging door while others use an inward swinging system. The difference in the two is that although an inward swinging bathtub door allows for easier entry, once inside the space may be limited and it may be awkward for the user to get the door closed when they must maneuver around it.  Another consideration with inward closing doors is that the water pressure may hold it closed and make it difficult to open in an emergency while the tub is in use. However, most walk in bathtubs use an inward swinging door, as they have been proven safe when used with care. The outward swinging door allows a quicker exit from the tub, but because the water pressure is working against it, the seal may not be as waterproof as the other type.

Many of these walk in bathtubs also use anti-scalding devices as well, and some are available with anti bacterial air jets, or water jets. These walk in bathtubs are designed to be entered and exited with ease, and feature doors that offer either walk in, or wheelchair access.

For ease of use, there are larger taps available in some tubs. Comfortable seating is often a part of the walk in tub. Most walk in bathtubs have a non-slip textured floor surface to afford better traction.

Many manufacturers design and produce the walk in bathtubs.  They offer different features and anyone considering purchasing one should be encouraged to shop around and find the features and design that best suits their needs.

Walk in bathtubs can allow a senior family member to confidently care for their own needs, and support their desire to remain independent as long as possible. They can be wheelchair accessible for those who are handicapped, and allow the disabled or infirm the dignity and privacy they require.
